Ticks and Lyme Disease

Ticks and Lyme Disease

Good afternoon!
You’ve probably heard that the incidence of tick bites in humans and pets have increased quite dramatically in the past few years. Previously, ticks were limited mostly to heavily wooded, back country areas only visited by campers and hikers. However, ticks have now been found in town in parks, backyards and playgrounds.

The problem with ticks is not just that they are ugly! Black legged ticks (AKA deer ticks) are the primary vectors of the Lyme disease bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. Lyme disease occurrence has also been on the rise steadily throughout Canada, including Ontario.

I have attached recommendations to prevent picking up ticks while out and what to do if you are bitten.
